Lament for a Stolen Car
03:41
|
|
||
it's been two days
two whole days
since I saw you last
you weren't so great
weren't so sharp
weren't so fast
I don't need you
but I want you
I want you back
I was good to you
and I loved you
do you want me back?
all the talks with the police
and dealing with insurance issues
I never appreciated leaving you alone for five days
and when I saw the thieves driving you away
I froze up for half an hour and did nothing
it's been two days
two whole days
since I saw you last
it's been three days
three whole days
since I saw you last
it's been four days
four whole days

I can't see, barely breathe
driving fast, windows breaking
gravel, then pavement, then gravel,
my hands are shaking
let oil burn, let the fumes marry me
to my seat
let loose the evening, I'm holding
my head to the street
crying my spirit out, leave me without doubt
I'm free
boxes and paper bags bouncing around the back seat
of all of these tract homes, there's not one single light to see
like honey dripping off the spoon into a mug of tea
the wind in my face with stick to my teeth
and be so sweet
crying my spirit out, leave me without doubt
I'm free
stumble in my front door, miss my bed
aim for the floor
the warmth of the sunrise will cut through
the blinds like a knife
the night was a dream, I could leave
I could want for more
let live my heretic heart, let it thrive on the street
crying my spirit out, leave me without doubt
I'm free

New Day
03:23
|
|
||
darkness fades and the night is here
and I wait for you but you're never there
it's been a long time since we met each other
I hope you know you're still my number one lover
and the new day dawns and the new dawn fades
after all this time you'd think that I wouldn't care
but it's hard not to with all this madness in the air
the world is always changing and it's hard to find your place
and when I watch when you sleep, I find some peace in your embrace
and the new day dawns and the new dawn fades

cop van, there goes that cop van
learner's permit in his hand
there goes that cop van
step inside, step outside
try to walk in a straight line
take you out, take you home
you'll never have to be alone
the cop, man
tries to get you in his van
offers out a helping hand
and locks you in the cop van
cop van, there goes that cop van
always something in his hand
there goes the cop van
you know the cop, man
tries to get you in his van
offers out a helping hand
no don't get in the cop van
woahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
cop van, there goes the cop van
cock and balls in his hand
there goes the cop van

hanging in the front row, never had this kind of view
dreaming like a big shot, preaching to the center pews
hanging with all my friends, only got one good friend
almost did a good deed, better tell yr parents
dreaming of the front page, with a page four feature
dreaming of the field, sleeping in the bleachers
hanging in the back row, feeling like a reject
almost got a good grade, better tell yr parents
heading on a road trip, gonna see the desert
buddy's got peyote, gonna see how that works
found a car in vegas, we found one that was unlocked
left it where we found it, after a few trips around the block
standing here in this kind of dichotomy
like some wild dog wandering 'round the city
i'm elated to have you right next to me
don't remember the last time i was happy
i've been walking on these same tracks for years
holding houses together with cans of beer
getting older, trading laughs for tears
feeling lonely even when you're here
pulled over in palm springs, we were swervin' in the slow lane
been doing it for miles, (one of those) radars caught us by plane
let off with a warning, (the officer even) wished us a safe trip home
at least, that's what i heard. been passed out since san bernardino
standing here in this kind of dichotomy
like some wild dog wandering 'round the city
i'm elated to have you right next to me
don't remember the last time i was happy
i've been walking on these same tracks for years
holding houses together with cans of beer
getting older, trading laughs for tears
feeling lonely even when you're here

Vivian the Band Seattle, Washington
The aural equivalent of scraping the freezer burn off the top of a pint of ice cream you forgot about. But, like, it's your favorite flavor, so it still turns out pretty good. And when you finish it, you put on some slides, drive three blocks to a mini mart, and buy more. But then you feel bad you didn't walk, cuz it was only three blocks. You then pass out on the couch and all the ice cream melts ... more
